Infra Sound: artist Alistair McClymont in conversation with neuroscientist Aleksandra Berditchevskai

This event brings together collaborators artist Alistair McClymont and neuroscientist Aleksandra Berditchevskaia. Over the past few months the duo have worked together to explore the subject of perception in relation to low frequency and infra-sound. This collaboration has culminated in the artwork and exploratory research project currently on display at the gallery titled One should never mistake pattern...for meaning. McClymont and Berditchevskaia will discuss the project’s background, what they hope to achieve and the crossovers between scientific and art practice as discovered through their working together as part of the 3 Branches of the Same Tree exhibition.
To close the event artist and musician Tom Richards will perform a piece of work using the custom designed sound system built for One should never mistake pattern ...for meaning. This performance will be produced as part of two day residency in which both McClymont and Richards spend time in the exhibition space interacting with the speaker system.

Aleksandra Berditchevskaia is a neuroscientist who has recently completed her PhD in Bioengineering (Neurotechnology) at Imperial College London. She is part of a research group that is interested in how sensory information is processed by neural circuits. Her own work specifically relates to motivational influences and sensory coding during simple visual behaviours.
Tom Richards has been walking the line between sonic art, sculpture and music since graduating with an MA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art in 2004. He has exhibited and performed widely in the UK, as well as internationally in the US, Germany and Sweden. Selected works and live performances have taken place at Tate Britain, The Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Science Museum, Spike Island, Cafe Oto, MK Gallery, Bold Tendencies, Soundfjord, and Resonance FM. His Broken Patchbay EP was released in 2012. He is currently studying between Goldsmiths and the Science Museum for a PhD on the life and work of Daphne Oram: Electronic Music Pioneer and founder member of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. He lives and works in London.
Alistair McClymont graduated from the Royal College of Art sculpture MA in 2005, he lives and works in London. His work is a continuing process of discovery and experimentation, ranging across a variety of materials and practices. Each piece follows the last in a continual journey of investigation into cultural and physical phenomena.
